Many of our own employees are devoted pet owners so it's no surprise that we take our mission statement seriously: "To enhance the Human-Animal Bond by providing quality products with innovative and technological solutions developed with proven science and love for companion animals." And since pet owners trust Hartz to provide the very best that science and technology can offer, our products are developed in conjunction with rigorous testing to ensure that they meet all appropriate safety and/or efficacy standards.
In some instances, our animal health products are used to protect dogs and cats from intestinal parasites, fleas, ticks or mosquitoes. For this reason, we work very hard to make sure that these solutions are carefully evaluated and conform to all regulations prior to the introduction. We uphold rigorous standards for our non-regulated products as well, making sure they're well-designed, thoroughly tested and meet the many needs of all our companion animals.
The Hartz Mountain Corporation's mission and commitment to product innovation is driven by our research and development efforts. Our main research facility is conveniently located adjacent to Hartz' major manufacturing complex in Bloomfield , New Jersey . This technology center contains state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to the discovery and development of pet products based on sound scientific principles to help pets lead longer, healthier lives.
The Research and Development Department is subdivided into four main groups known as Analytical & Quality Control, Biological Sciences, Chemical Product Development and Nutrition Product Development. These major groups consist of highly trained professionals holding advanced degrees and unique scientific expertise. Their responsibilities include new product development, process development, new business development and technical support for the current product line. They perform acceptability studies of treats and diets, long term evaluation of complete diets and safety and efficacy evaluation of animal products and accessories.
We have some of the finest scientists and researchers who work closely with our cross-functional teams in pursuit of novel discoveries and innovations for pets. We often work with experts and scientists at universities and outside testing facilities when evaluating prototype models. We consult with them to gain insights on how to make design improvements. The scientific validation of Hartz' product performance and benefits also leads to many notable collaborations with such Universities as Ohio State , Florida and Idaho along with varied research facilities throughout the United States and Europe .
At Hartz, we realize that no two pets are alike, and we're committed to offering a diverse selection of items for dogs, cats, birds, ornamental fish, small mammals and reptiles.
