{"id":6630,"date":"2015-03-13T21:03:16","date_gmt":"2015-03-13T21:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hartz-v2.local7\/how-to-treat-your-dog-for-intestinal-parasites\/"},"modified":"2023-02-24T15:33:22","modified_gmt":"2023-02-24T15:33:22","slug":"how-to-treat-your-dog-for-intestinal-parasites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hartz.com\/en-ca\/how-to-treat-your-dog-for-intestinal-parasites\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Treat Your Dog for Intestinal Parasites"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Does my dog have worms?<\/h3>\n<p>There are several clues that may help you determine if your dog has worms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms to look for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Worms or worm segments visible in your dog\u2019s stool, vomit, fur, or bedding<\/li>\n<li>Scratching or rubbing his rear on the ground or \u201cscooting\u201d against furniture<\/li>\n<li>A bloated belly \u2013 especially in puppies<\/li>\n<li>Weakness, increased appetite, constant hunger, weight loss<\/li>\n<li>Dull coat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even if you do not see any of the symptoms above \u2013 your dog may still have worms. Discuss what you see with your veterinarian and have a fecal floatation exam performed to look for the presence of worm eggs.<\/p>\n<h3>Which worm treatment should I use?<\/h3>\n<p>It is important to know which worm(s) your dog has, as there are several different treatments available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Roundworms and hookworms can be treated with a product containing pyrantel pamoate<\/li>\n<li>Dogs with tapeworms should be treated with praziquantel (available over the counter or from your veterinarian).<\/li>\n<li>A whipworm infestation may be treated with fenbendazole available from your veterinarian.
