Hartz Sponsors the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and PAWS Atlanta “Trails for Tails” 5K Walk/Run

The Hartz Mountain Corporation was a proud sponsor of the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) and PAWS Atlanta event “Trails for Tails” 5K Run/Walk in Atlanta, GA on August 1, 2010.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) gave back to the Atlanta community during their first annual convention in Atlanta by hosting “Trails for Tails, a 5K Run/Walk event raising funds for animal welfare programs and PAWS Atlanta, the city’s oldest and largest animal shelter.

The event was held at 7:30am on a warm Atlanta morning in Centennial Olympic Park with an assortment of veterinarians, animal health and welfare professions and Atlanta residents ready to kick off the 5K. Hartz was represented by Dr. Elizabette Cohen DVM who finished the 5K in under 45 minutes. “It was such a nice opportunity to meet other veterinarians and support a great cause. That is why I do free and low-cost spays and neuters for the ASPCA. Things like these events help so many people and pets” explained Dr. Cohen, who is also the WCBS newsradio 880 pet reporter giving “Healthy and Happy Pet” advice heard on the radio and internet several times daily every Saturday and Sunday.

Hartz was a pleased to sponsor this event that raised $30,000 for the AVMF and PAWS Atlanta. “It was wonderful to see so many animal health professionals and animal lovers coming out to support an event that will benefit the welfare of companion animals waiting to be adopted by good families”, said Kim Cassar a Senior Director from Hartz who also attended the event.

Hartz is committed to helping companion animals in need and has donated funding and pet supplies to shelters across the United States and Canada. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that 6-8 million dogs and cats enter shelters each year but only 3-4 million are adopted annually. We believe that pet adoption is incredibly important and that every pet deserves a loving home.
